Construction has started on our new fire station. We hope to be able to move in by July. We have been approved for a loan of $300,000. This is not a grant. It must be repaid with interest. We thank you for your past generous donations. Your donations with support from the Town of Westport, the Trustees of Sandcreek and Jackson Townships in Decatur County and Columbia and Sandcreek in Jennings County have made it possible for us to upgrade our department and have a credit rating that qualifies us for a loan of this size. Your dedicated Volunteer Firemen answered 248 calls in 2007. 39 were for fires, 22 were for auto accidents, 132 were for assisting the Emergency Medical Services, 12 were to investigate smoke or carbon monoxide alarms, 2 were severe weather alerts, 24 were false alarms or canceled enroute and 17 were for other types of assistance. We now have 7 certified first responders along with our 10 EMT’s who do the preliminary care until the ambulance arrives. Our opening expense for 2007 was $87,220. With $41,209 for legal expense and beginning work on the new fire station.
